Avian Visitor at the Painted Pony Resort
A new avian resident has taken up lodging at the Painted Pony Resort, a Great Horned Owl, (Bubo virginianus). The owl seems to prefer the front entryway for it's roost but can also be found in the pines on the south side of the pool. Below is a photograph of the owl on the ledge above the entryway to the main house. The legs and feet are uniform in color and the underside barring is fairly distinct. It's wing span is about 5 ft and is very impressive when it takes off from a tree.

That is great having the desert great horned owl around, and getting the picture.
ReplyDeleteThe owl is a great addition to the place, the only down side are the owl pellets that have to be cleaned up all the time.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so jealous. I want a Great Horned Owl on my front porch. Send him over when you're done!
ReplyDeleteHe's yours, though you will have to talk to him to see if he wants to move. Neat and tidy he is not, I'm cleaning uric acid and owl pellets from all over the place. I clean up after guests and now I clean up after the wildlife, the job just gets bigger and bigger.
