Another family reunion is underway at the Painted Pony Resort and this one is all about the children. A kiddie carnival was set up in the courtyard and 2 jumpers were rented for the kids to play in during the carnival. Family centered activities are the core of family reunions and the with 80 acres and 3 buildings people can spread out and have private time or congregate and participate in group activities. A family Olympics is also planned and the ping pong, pool table, and basket ball court will see lots of activity.

This looks like a very fun time for the whole family, lots to do at the Painted Pony!
ReplyDeleteLots of little ones at this family reunion and they all seem to be having a good time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they would consider adopting me as a larger, slightly older kid, who isn't that far away from collecting social security ;-)
ReplyDeleteSeveral sets of guests have offered to adopt me during their stay, but it would mean moving away from here, and I'm not finished building and creating.
ReplyDeleteHuh, we are out in the middle of nowhere [in fact there is a road named 'Midla Nowhere' that sign gets stolen and replaced a LOT]
ReplyDeleteso where does one get jumpers delivered from ?
The jumpers came from Las Cruces for the day.
ReplyDeleteHaving a place in the middle of nowhere has its advantages. The parents could completely control the environment and no neighbors close by to be disturbed. With no electronic distractions families played together. I was really impressed with what the families did for the kids. I observed one dad with half a dozen kids playing skee ball by the bungalow and another playing croquet with a bunch of little ones behind guest house one morning.
The final tally was over 50 folks (mostly kids) for the reunion, parents and teenagers in beds and kids on the floor.
When I was a kid, we visited my aunt and uncle who had a huge home my uncle converted from an old hotel. We posed for pix on the steps. We watched the older kids climb a flag pole, my cousin Sally saved us from a swarm of bees but she was stung numerous times. The parents were elsewhere catching up on news. A good time was had by all but different from this family. Sounds like a wholesome group that made lots of good memories.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest cousin just emailed me yesterday "was I interested in a family reunion?" I said SURE. I bet it doesn't happen though. Maybe YOUR family there could adopt me!
Family reunions are a lot of work and one of the first hurdles is agreeing on a location. While the valley may not seem to be a draw for families a number do like the unplugged option that is natural to this area. While it is possible to deliver cell and internet service on the property it is less work on my part to leave all the equipment off, creating an environment where families interact. It also doesn't hurt that PPR is over 3 miles from the nearest paved road.
