The annual Oktober Fest was held today in downtown Portal. As a fund raiser for
Portal Rescue sponsored by the
SewWhat Club this years events were again centered in
Schaughency Park, the Post Office, and Myrtle Kraft Library. As well as a number of vendors there was the silent auction of donated items, the bake sale, and of course lots of bratwurst. The Oktober Fest girls were in evidence, busty blonde maidens every one and Dr. Topoff exchanged his PhD for an MD for the day to warn all the locals about the dangers of shingles (the roofing kind). It was a pleasant day in Portal and the whole valley seemed to be in evidence.

sorry I missed it. I was that day at Fremont Indian State Park hiking around rock art in Utah on our way to Bryce National Park. First Oktoberfest I've missed since its inception.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great trip. Hope all went well.
ReplyDeletea correction, though. Oktoberfest is the Sew What's main fund raiser in the year. Sew What gives out local scholarships to Animas and San Simon seniors usually but adults could apply also. The money also supports a little enrichment for the Cypress Inn Nursing Home in Douglas and to make it even MORE confusing, Sew What makes an annual donation to Portal Rescue. The PR folks wore their tee shirts to call attention to the October fund raising for PR but the Oktoberfest actually was put on by and supported Sew What. Many of us are in both organizations and that also causes confusion. I think we need a sign!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the correction. I believe a little more information, perhaps some publicity releases with background information would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great turn out for this year, sorry I missed it but thank you for sharing the pictures and information.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. Hope California was fun.
